Map of Eemshaven

General information

Seaport Eemshaven is a commercial and industrial port complex in an area reclaimed from the sea. It has three main terminals and can accommodate ships with draughts of up to 11 metres. The entrance has a bottom width of 200 metres. Seaport Eemshaven offers roll-on/rolloff and container handling facilities, ample storage space and transhipment warehouses and links directly to the Dutch railway, inland waterways and motorway networks.

Port Accommodation

The Eemshaven harbour area consists of a central channel, the Doekegatkanaal, and four basins: the Beatrixhaven, Julianahaven, Emmahaven and Wilhelminahaven.

Doekegatkanaal
This waterway is 325 metres wide at the entrance and 2,100 metres long. There is a swing basin with a diameter of 500 metres and a depth of 10.5 metres NAP.

Beatrixhaven
The Beatrix harbour is a new dedicated harbour for shortsea vessel traffic. The basin has a length of 375 metres, and a breadth of about 150 metres, with a depth of 10 metres. At the southern part of this basin a quay of 375 metres has been constructed. At the northern part the new passenger terminal with a ro-ro berth for the Borkum Ferry has established.

Julianahaven
On the west side is a ro-ro facility with 50,000 square metres of paved area. It can accommodate vessels up to 175 metres LOA, 25 metres breadth and 9.5 metres draught. On the north side is a 3 hectare dry bulk terminal. There is 750 metres of quay with a depth alongside of 15.0 metres NAP. It is expected that another extension of 350 metres (phasey) will follow in the near future. Bulk carriers up to 40,000 dwt can be worked by a 100 tonne mobile crane. On the south side is a general cargo handling quay with private terminals.

Emmahaven
A 200 metre long floating jetty is used by inland and coastal vessels.

Wilhelminahaven
The basin has a length of 600 metres and a breadth of 200 metres at a depth of 15.0 to 17.0 metres. Four mooring buoys have been laid out in this basin. Each buoy has a SWL of 80 tonnes. In the near future, Groningen Seaports will extend the basin with another 525 metres to accommodate new energy activities like a LNG-terminal and a multifuel power plant.
