General information
Located three kilometers inland from the IJmuiden locks on the northern flank of the North Sea Canal, the port of Beverwijk is a busy port with many possibilities for sea going ships up to 8 metres draft. The port handles potatoes, fruit and vegetables, cooled and deep-frozen cargoes as well as forestry products such as timber and pulp. As the largest potato handling port in the world Beverwijk has a thorough know-how and skill in the specialised handling of natural crops. Stevedores, warehouse operators and road hauliers provide the transportation necessary to attract produce exporters and importers.
Recent investments in the port infrastructure enable larger ships to enter the port. The port basin now has a depth of -8.5 metres, while the accessibility by road has been improved. The port basin now measures 1,100 x 65 metres. A future expansion plan to be realized within the next decade concerns a 500 hectares port and industry area east of the existing port.
On the Westside of basin is operating the Container Terminal Beverwijk (CTB). The quay has a length of 200 metre, with a depth of -8.5 metres.
