Werkendam is situated on the left bank of the river Boven Merwede, kilometre indicator 961.4 at the split of the river Beneden Merwede and Nieuwe Merwede. There are three harbours: the Beatrix harbour, the Biesbosch harbour and the Bruinekil harbour. The Beatrix and the Biesbosch harbour are destined for professional navigation, while the Bruinekil harbour is assigned for recreation navigation. The harbours are mostly used for repairs to the inland shipping.
There is a mailbox and a glass tray situated on the discharge quay at the Biesbosch harbour. Here you can also find two drinking-water wells, the first one at the concrete jetty and the other one at the discharge quay. At the Beatrix harbour are with the jetties number 1, 2 and 3 two drinking-water wells. Household refuse containers can be found at several places in the port, but may only be used by the barges. There are also 220 V electric current facilities available at the mooring quays, to be activated with Euro coins. After consulting the harbourmaster one can use a 380 V connection point at the discharge quay. A port commandment can be obtained at the harbourmaster’s office.
