General information

The port of Dordrecht has an open link with the North Sea, about 25 nautical miles away via the Oude Maas and the New Waterway. The port is accessible to ocean-going vessels with draughts of up to 31 feet and cargo capacities of up to 30,000 dwt.
The main approach is via Maasmond (Hoek van Holland), the Nieuwe Waterweg and the Oude Maas, with a minimum depth of 10.00 m below Normal Amsterdam Level (NAP). Immediately above its confluence with the Nieuwe Maas, the Oude Maas is spanned by two lifting bridges: the Botiek (available width 53.8 m.) and Spijkenisse (width 80 m).

As a traditional transit point between ocean shipping and inland shipping, the port of Dordrecht is first and foremost a transhipment port. Many goods coming from overseas and destined, for example, for the Ruhr – or vice versa – are transhipped in Dordrecht. The principal activities are the handling and storage of:
  • bulk cargoes (coal, ore, cement etc.);
  • (bulk) general cargo;
  • grain and animal feed;
  • oil products and chemicals.

The port of Dordrecht is located at latitude 51’49 N and longitude 4’40E on the south bank of the Oude Maas river at its junction with the Merwede, Noord and Dordtse Kil rivers.
