Port Accommodation

The Eemshaven harbour area consists of a central channel, the Doekegatkanaal, and four basins: the Beatrixhaven, Julianahaven, Emmahaven and Wilhelminahaven.

Doekegatkanaal

This waterway is 325 metres wide at the entrance and 2,100 metres long. There is a swing basin with a diameter of 500 metres and a depth of 10.5 metres NAP.

Beatrixhaven

The Beatrix harbour is a new dedicated harbour for shortsea vessel traffic. The basin has a length of 700 metres, and a breadth of about 150 metres. Vessels can safely moor with a draft up to 7.5 metres. At the southern part of this basin a quay of 700 metres has been constructed. At the northern part the new passenger terminal with a ro-ro berth for the Borkum Ferry has established. In the near future the Beatrix harbour will be extended a further 500 metres (in two phases).

Julianahaven

On the west side is a ro-ro facility with 50,000 square metres of paved area. It can accommodate vessels up to 175 metres LOA, 25 metres breadth and 10.5 metres draught. On the north side is a 32 hectare dry bulk terminal. There is 750 metres of quay with a depth alongside of 15.0 metres NAP. A quay extension of another 350 metres is under construction. Bulk carriers up to 40,000 dwt can be worked by a 100 tons mobile crane. On the south side is a general cargo handling quay with private terminals.

Emmahaven

A 365 metre long floating jetty is used by inland, fishery, and coastal vessels. Both sides are accessible.

Wilhelminahaven

The basin has a length of 600 metres and a breadth of 200 metres at a depth of 15.0 to 17.0 metres. On the south side is located an inland vessel terminal. Groningen Seaports will extend the basin by about 600 metres and constructs 1,250 metres of deep sea bulk quay around this basin extension.
